On 3rd September, the whole P3 level went on an authentic and thrilling trip to the Zoo to learn more about the animals that they learned in their textbooks. It was a time to see for themselves the things they learned in class.

They had loads of fun while they learned and discovered more about the wonderful world of animals.

Curious boy's Questions

Hi all,

I received a list of questions from someone today. It would be easy for me just to give the answers but that way you won't learn much. So we're going to have a little challenge. Try to find out the answers to as many questions as possible. I'll give a little prize to the person with the best answers.

Note: It's best if you can answer it in your own words.

Q1: What do drugs contain?

Q2: What system in the human system is the most important?

Q3: What do fire contain?

Q4: How is nylon made?

Q5: How is polyester made?

Q6: How is liquid paper made?

Q7: How is canvas made?

Q8: How is ceramics made?

Q9: How is Porcupine different from a Spiny Anteater?

Tip on searching for answers:
1. Google is a good search engine.
2. Start by searching something specific, e.g. "How is canvas made".
3. If nothing useful comes up, search for something more general, e.g. "canvas".

Have fun!!

LEAPS@BLGPS

Hi all,

During Term 2 Week 9, we had our LEAPS@BLGPS programme. In this programme, pupils got to do hands-on activities that focus on Science Process Skills. What is even more interesting is that the activities were conducted by our very own pupils. So it was friends teaching friends! How cool is that!

Here are some pictures of the training of the Pupil Leaders or Station Masters

Here are the pictures of the actual day of LEAPS... It was a big day for the Pupil Leaders as they are on their own to conduct the activities. I must say they did a tremendous job! Well done!

Ping Pong Ball Question

Today, Mavis and Wen Qi wrote me a question.

If a ping pong ball is dented, why does it become round again when we put it in
hot water?

Now, the simple reason is because air expands when it is hot. So, when you put the ping pong ball into the hot water, the air inside the ball expands and pushes out the dents!

Do go read up more about how air expands and what actually happens when air expands. Have fun!!

Thanks for the question, keep them coming!!

The video below shows how to inflat a dented ping pong.

Physical Properties of Materials

Dear 3/7,

I'm sure you had fun today testing out the physical properties of different materials. Just remember that there is more than what we've learnt today, so go and explore more into the world of materials and find out what other words can be used to describe materials.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask using the tag box on the right.

There is a website that allows you to do experiments on materials online. Click here for the website.

Have fun!!

Tutorial: How to Embed a YouTube video on your Blog

Hi my dear 3/7...

This is for those who are wondering how to embed (put) a YouTube video on your blog. YouTube is a very interesting website because there is a lot you can learn from there. But just be careful that there are some videos on YouTube that are not good.

Step 1: Go to YouTube and find a video that you want to embed on your blog.

Step 2: Look for a box called Embed on the right of the video.

Step 3: Click inside the code box next to the word Embed. All of the code text should automatically be highlighted. If not, you'll need to select it. Copy this code. You can copy by right-clicking on your mouse and selecting copy from the drop-down menu.

Step 4: Log into your Blogger account and compose a new message for your blog. Select the Edit HTML tab (top right hand side), and paste the code you copied from YouTube. It is important to make sure you have the HTML tab selected first. You can paste the code by right-clicking and selecting paste from the drop-down menu

For more information and pictures that shows how to do it, go to this website.

Have fun!!

Hydroponics Team Harvesting Vegetables

8 pupils were selected to help in the Hydroponics project for the P3 level. They helped to harvest the first batch of vegetables grown by the vendor using the hydroponics system.
--------------------------------------------------
What is different about hydroponics and normal growing of vegetable using soil?

Hydroponics uses only water. There is no soil involved. All you need is water and nutrients and the vegetable can grow. The whole system is run on solar power which helps to pump water to the plants. So we do not need to water the plants at all. All we need to do is to add nutrients into the water. So simple!!

There is also no pest that attacks the plants and so there is no harmful pest-killing chemicals. It's very healthy and fresh!

Project Work

Project work was the first major activity done by the class. I'm sure you had lots of fun working with your classmates. Remember, unity is strength. Only with friends will you be able to achieve great things!

Here are some pictures taken when the groups were doing their presentation:
